The holidays are a time for friends, family, and good cheer. But people suffering from injury or illness, stuck in the hospital during the cold winter months, have a much different (and more difficult) experience.
We want to change that – and we hope you do, too. We’re calling on our community’s holiday heroes to spread goodwill and cheer where it is needed most. Together, we can reunite families in time for Christmas and deliver miniature miracles in the form of exceptional healthcare.

This year, we’re taking part in some new activities for 2022 while bringing back some of the most remarkable ones from years past.
At the hospital, you’ll find our popular Tribute Tree, where you can purchase an ornament and hang it in memory of a loved one. It’s a beautiful way to commemorate those who are no longer with us for the holidays.
Ornaments can be purchased at downtown’s Midnight Madness event on November 18, or in the hospital atrium from Nov 21 – Dec 23 (Monday-Friday, 10 AM – 2 PM).
We’ll be collecting new or gently worn warm clothes (socks, gloves and hats, boots, coats, sweatpants, and underwear) for our social work team. Often, we have patients come in with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. We want to make sure they are prepared for the cold when they leave!
We will be setting up two donation boxes in the hospital, just inside the west and east entrances. Thank you in advance for helping us help others!
We’re running a community “Acts of Kindness” challenge on social media! Get inspired to help your friends, family, and neighbours from our list below, share a photo/video online with the hashtag #HatforHope2022, and tag someone to keep the chain going. Together, we can show that being kind doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money – but it can make a big difference all the same!
Donate new or very gently worn clothes to the hospital or a local shelter.
Send a handwritten message to a senior in the hospital! Address the letter to “Acts of Kindness” and send to 666 5 St SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 4H6.
Make a donation of $10-$20 in the name of a healthcare hero from our region.
Make a donation to the Medicine Hat Food Bank through the Root Cellar.
Help us fill the hospital’s Treasure Chest with new toys and activities for kids.
Clear off a neighbour’s car, sidewalk, or driveway for those major kindness points.
Pay for the next person’s coffee when you’re at your local café and watch them light up.
Drop off personal care and hygiene items at the hospital or a local shelter/ emergency organization.
Volunteer at a local charitable organization, like the hospital’s gift shop or a pet shelter.
Cook some hot comfort food and drop it off with a friend or neighbour to see how good it feels to give.
Take the time to leave a glowing review for your favourite shop, restaurant, or small business. They’ll appreciate it more than you know!
Carve out a few minutes to give someone a genuine compliment, in person or through text.
All the donations made to MHHF stay right here in our community, where they are reinvested in equipment, training, supplies, and other necessary resources. It’s true what they say – donating is literally good for your health!
